This February, join the Library’s Lunar New Year celebration welcoming the spring and what it brings (planting and harvests, new beginnings, and fresh starts) with a selection of blog posts, online programs, resources, and more. Lunar New Year is an opportunity to reunite with family and celebrate traditions dating back over 4,000 years. Marking the end of the coldest days, Lunar New Year is always celebrated on the second new moon after the winter solstice.
It is also celebrated in Vietnam, Mongolia, North and South Korea, and other parts of Asia. It is the most important holiday in China and for many people of Chinese origin all over the world. Lunar New Year is celebrated by more than a fifth of the world’s population. The New York Public Library welcomes people from all backgrounds and celebrates the rich multicultural diversity that defines New York City.
